Built in a classroom, for classroom teachers.

The story behind The Math Toolbox โ€” and why I'm sharing it with other teachers.

IO

Hi, I'm Isaac.

I've spent 23 years in math classrooms โ€” three years teaching middle school math, then Algebra I, then Geometry and 14 years of Algebra II at a private high school, and the past five years back in Algebra I (both Honors and on-level). Every tool in this toolbox came out of those years: built on my prep periods, refined in front of real students, and shaped by what actually helps the kids who are struggling.

๐Ÿ“– The story

I started teaching middle school math in my first three years out of the gate. That stretch turned out to be the most important training I'd ever get. When I moved up to Algebra I in my fourth year, I already knew what students looked like when the foundation underneath the algebra was shaky โ€” and I knew how to meet them there instead of teaching past them.

From Algebra I, I moved to high school and taught Algebra II for the next 14 years (with a stretch of Geometry alongside it when I first arrived). The middle-school and Algebra I background paid off again and again โ€” the students who struggle in Algebra II are almost always students whose Algebra I or pre-algebra never fully clicked, and I could go back and fill those gaps without making it feel remedial.

The thing I cared about most across all of it was the same: finding multiple ways to make math actually land for the students who think they're bad at it. A bell-ringer that warms them up without humiliating them. A Friday game that lets the kid who hates word problems be the one with the right answer. An exit ticket short enough that they finish it instead of giving up.

My students need to practice the right things, with immediate feedback, every day. Tools like DeltaMath and Khan Academy do that beautifully โ€” but they don't let me inject my own questions, my own framing, my own pacing. So I built a toolkit that does.

Five years ago I came back to Algebra I, and I've been teaching it since. The Math Toolbox came out of those Algebra I prep periods first โ€” the tools I wished I had on the days when I had to make a unit test, a worksheet, a vocab activity, and a Friday game all by Sunday night. The Math Toolbox II came right after, built on everything I learned across those 14 years of Algebra II.

That's the whole pitch: this is what I use, in two courses I've spent my career inside. Now it's free for you too.

๐Ÿ… Why I think this can help

I'm a teacher first โ€” but I want to be upfront about why these tools are worth your time. Over the last two decades I've won local and national teaching awards, and I've collected hundreds of testimonials from former students about how the way I taught math reshaped their view of the subject โ€” and in many cases, their future math trajectory.

None of that matters here unless it makes the tools more useful to you. The reason I'm mentioning it: every design choice in this toolkit โ€” the difficulty curves, the spiral review patterns, the multiple-format questions, the way the games surface every student's answer โ€” comes from a body of practice that's been recognized and tested in real classrooms with real students who struggled, and then didn't.

๐Ÿงฐ What's inside

The toolkit now spans two courses: 14 free tools for Algebra I and 13 sibling tools for Algebra II, all powered by curated question banks. Both courses share the same rhythm and the same design โ€” pick a course, then pick a tool for the moment of class you're in:

Algebra II edition: the same tools, ported to a 2,918-question Algebra II bank covering Functions & Inverses, Systems, Quadratics & Complex Numbers, Polynomials, Radicals, Rationals, Exp/Log, and Sequences & Conics. Use the Algebra I / Algebra II switcher at the top of any page.

๐ŸŽฏ Standards alignment

Every question in both banks is tagged with both Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Common Core (CCSS) codes. You can search either bank by standard, filter any tool by standard, and prove alignment for admin walk-throughs and IEP documentation.

TEKS โ€” Algebra I

A.2, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6, A.7, A.8, A.9, A.10, A.11, A.12 (every standard for Algebra I in Texas).

TEKS โ€” Algebra II

2A.2, 2A.3, 2A.4, 2A.5, 2A.6, 2A.7 (functions and inverses; systems; quadratics; exp/log; rationals/radicals/absolute value; polynomials).

Common Core โ€” Algebra I

HSA-SSE, HSA-APR, HSA-CED, HSA-REI, HSF-IF, HSF-LE, HSS-ID, HSN-RN.

Common Core โ€” Algebra II

HSA-APR, HSA-CED, HSA-REI, HSF-IF, HSF-BF, HSF-LE, HSN-CN, HSN-RN, HSG-GPE (conic equations).

๐Ÿ›  What's coming

The Toolbox is a living project. Everything you see here is free to use. Here's what's shipped recently and what's next:

โœ… The Math Toolbox II (Algebra II) is now live. Same engine, 2,918 hand-curated Algebra II questions, 121 vocab terms, and every Algebra I tool ported to a sibling app โ€” Jeopardy, Kahoot, Worksheet Generator, Test Generator, Do-Now, Exit Ticket, Bingo, Escape Room, Vocab Match, Wheel, Graph Match, Flashcards, Fluency Drills, Standards Search, and Bank Editor. Use the Algebra I / Algebra II switcher at the top of any page.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Premium TpT bundles. The free tools generate handouts on demand. The premium bundles are curated, ready-to-print PDF packs โ€” full unit tests with versions, multi-week bell-ringer collections, complete worksheet packs by unit. First two bundles are scaffolded (Algebra I Unit 4 โ€” Linear Functions, and Algebra II Unit 3 โ€” Quadratics & Complex Numbers).

โœ… The Geometry Toolbox is live. Same engine, new bank โ€” 3,781 hand-curated Geometry questions, 175 vocab terms, two-column proofs as a first-class question type, an interactive compass-and-straightedge constructions tool, and every sibling app ported. Use the course switcher at the top of any page.

๐Ÿšง The Precalculus Toolbox is in development. Twelve units across functions, polynomials, exp/log, trig (right-triangle through identities + equations through applications), vectors, polar coordinates, complex numbers, conics, sequences, series, and a light intro to limits. The marquee addition is an Interactive Unit Circle Explorer โ€” drag the angle, watch (cos, sin) update live, with sinusoid-trace and polar modes. Preview the suite โ†’

๐Ÿ›  Quality-of-life features. Bank Editor v2 (shipped) adds favorites and flag-for-review. Down the line: a "Pacing Guide" page per unit, an email list for new content drops, and direct .docx export so you can fully customize handouts.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Get in touch

I read every email. If you find a typo in a question, want to request a feature, or just want to tell me you used this on a Friday and it saved your sanity โ€” I'd love to hear it.

๐Ÿ“œ Use & license

Free for your classroom. Use any tool here with your own students for any number of years. Print whatever handouts you need. Share-to-students links and downloaded student files are fine.

Premium TpT bundles (coming soon) are paid products covered by the standard Teachers-Pay-Teachers single-classroom license.

Please don't rehost the apps on your own site as if they were yours, sell the bank, or use the tools in commercial training products. If you're a school or district that wants licensed access for multiple teachers, email me โ€” happy to talk.
